Trump likely take ‘significant action’ against China on trade: official

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Mr . trump is anticipated to direct a "pretty significant action" in trade tariffs against China affecting around $50 billion in Chinese goods, an administration official said on Thursday.

U.S. trade officials were meeting on the White House on Thursday afternoon to debate the difficulty, with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin arguing with the move, a state said.

The official told Reuters that Trump not contemplated China's influence over North Korea as being a compelling reason to never impose tariffs since the nation enjoyed a direct brand of communication with Pyongyang.

"You can find a channel that's outside of China now," he explained.
