Trump criticizes Biden for Afghanistan troop withdrawal timetable

Former US President Donald Trump on Thursday blasted President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw all US troops from Afghanistan by September 11, saying “we could and should have done so much earlier”, according to RT.

Mr Trump said he hoped Mr Biden would not set September 11 as the deadline for a full withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, saying “for two reasons”.

“First, we can and should get out earlier.Nineteen years is enough, in fact, too long, too long, in fact, far too much and way too long”.

“Nineteen years is enough, in fact, too long, too long,” Trump said, adding:”Sept 11 represented a very sad event and period for our Country and should remain a day of reflection and remembrance honoring those great souls we lost.” Trump then said that “getting out of Afghanistan is wonderful and positive thing to do”. Trump is the latest former commander in chief to weigh in on Biden’s plan, with former President George W. Bush and Barack Obama having spoken to Biden ahead of his announcement last week. Obama praised Biden’s decision to end the nearly 20-year war, which has spanned all four administration.

Trump ended by urging Biden to stick to the dates set when he was president as much as possible.

U.S. President Joe Biden has decided to pull U.S. troops out of Afghanistan by Sept. 11, several U.S. officials said Tuesday, AP and other media reported. The decision overturn a May 1 deadline set by the Trump administration when it reached a peace agreement with the Taliban last year. Weeks earlier, Mr. Biden had indicated that the final withdrawal deadline would be delayed. It is worth noting that September 11 this year coincides with the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
